Kim is originally from Vanceboro, North Carolina. After high school, Kim joined the U.S. Navy where she served 6 1/2 years. While in the Navy, she earned an A.A. degree from University of Maryland College Park. After the Navy, Kim worked at Memorial Regional Hospital as a surgical technologist on the cardio-vascular team. On her days off, Kim attended Florida International University in Miami. She graduated in 2001 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and certificate in Women’s Studies. She enrolled in Regent University School of Law and graduated with her Juris Doctorate in Law in 2006. Kim successfully passed the North Carolina Bar Exam in 2006 and was admitted to practice law in North Carolina. She was immediately hired by the District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant Public Defender. In 2014, the District Attorney named Kim as Chief Assistant District Attorney.
